Hypnotherapy
He who looks outside, dreams; he who looks within, awakens."  - Carl Jung
Hypnotherapy is a different approach than traditional talk therapy.  With Hypnotherapy you'll work with  a mental health clinician that is trained to perform hypnosis. The mental health clinician must have a doctorate level degree in medicine, dentistry, or psychology, or a master’s degree in nursing, social work, psychology, or marital/family therapy plus a specific number of hours of approved training in hypnotherapy.

This is a separate service for clients interested in just Hypnotherapy. With these sessions I will begin by gathering information from you regarding your goals, we'll  then proceed with the hypnosis.  I may blend in some Cognitive Behavioral techniques if that will benefit you.  This is a very individualized treatment approach that is formulated just for you!

Cost for a Single In-Office Pre-Meeting for a Hypnotherapy session

Cost for Single Hypnotherapy Session

...$225.00... per 55 minute session for a single hypnotherapy session.

Individualized Treatment
I'll assess, while hearing your story, discover your needs and desired goals and then create an individualized hypnotherapy plan just for you. I then blend Hypnotherapy with my Cognitive Behavioral therapy skills to help you heal from your obstacles.

Details for a Single In-Office Pre-Meeting for a Hypnotherapy session ($175.00).  Prior to the Hypnotherapy session occurs you will need one session prior at my regular session rate.  This allows me to gather your history, hear your struggles, and hear what brings you peace.  Also, it also allows you to be in my office, hear the street sounds, get the first meeting jitters out, etc.  This provides a much more relaxing experience when you arrive for your Hypnotherapy session.  After this initial session takes place I write your own hypnotherapy plan. Your initial session and hypnotherapy session may be scheduled two weeks apart allowing me time to write your personal script.

For most people, only a single session of hypnotherapy will be needed.  One reason is because I encourage you to record the session and review it nightly for a few weeks.   You are always welcome to come in for an additional hypnotherapy session for strengthening, but I'm hopeful you can do it on your own, therefore, in most cases it's not needed.

In Person or Telehealth
All my hynotherapy sessions are in person. I do not do hypnotherapy via Telehealth. I want the best outcome for you.  Your desire for wearing masks will be followed.

Recording Your Session
I encourage you to arrive with a fully charged smart phone or recording device.  It will be beneficial for you to record your session so that you can utilize it outside of your session time.
Arrival Time
It is best if you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.  If you arrive late I can not extend time at the end as I will most likely have an appointment after yours.  When entering the lobby you will see my name on the wall with a switch by it.  Just flip the switch.  Have a seat and relax! I will be notified of your arrival and will come and get you at your scheduled time.
Fees and Information
My fee for Hypnotherapy is $225.00 per session.  In addition, you need to attend a preliminary session at $175.00 - my regular session rate.  At this regular session is where I hear your story, fine tune your struggle and have you determine what would bring you peace. You also naturally become comfortable with my office and it's surrounding signs so that when you begin your hypnotherapy session at your next visit there is a sense of comfort already established thus leading to a great hypnotherapy experience.
Payment
A credit card will be required to hold an appointment. Also, there is a 24-hour cancellation policy that is industry standard.  Under 24-hour notice prevents another individual from utilizing that hour.  I appreciate your understanding.  Please email me at LizBirchMFT@gmail.com prior to making a purchase so I can schedule with you a "free 15-minute consultation" and further discuss your desires.
Are there Guarantees?
There is no guarantee with any type of therapeutic or medical intervention, whether it is hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, prescribed medicine, faith healing, alcoholics anonymous and so on. Each of these interventions can work differently with different people at different times.  As evidence based practitioners, we attempt to employ interventions that are supported by research to responsibly offer up what is seen as the best choice for the client and give the highest chance of that change occurring, but nothing is guaranteed.

I cannot make a guarantee that essentially involves the client, as well. Hypnotherapy is not just about me as therapist.  As therapists, today we learn to be client-centered and client focused while bringing our skills, knowledge and manner to the table and being a good motivated role-model for the change process that the client is to engage in. Each individual is different. Each person will need to work on change outside of session. As a therapist I can provide the tools, insight and guidance but you, as the client, have the choice of whether to follow through with the newly gained information.  Each person has their own take on the issue at hand and a number of variables that we need to take into account before we make decisions about the therapy.

I do not bill insurance companies for my Hypnotherapy services.

About Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy:
Hypnosis is a natural, familiar state.  We all move in and out of the hypnotic state at various times during the day. For instance, sometimes we go into this state when we're driving, watching TV, listening to music, just before we fall asleep or working on a project that we are passionate about.

Myth:
The Hypnotherapist has control over you.
Fact:
A certified hypnotherapist’s treatment is only as strong as the client’s allowability.  You are always in control of your actions. You will never do something against your will. If at any point something was done that you didn't like you will immediately have a reaction and not do it.  We call this “abreaction.” If a hypnotherapist gave you an undesirable suggestion, you would  come out of the state.  Essentially, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. A knowledgable hypnotherapist merely guides or facilitates the process for you.

Myth:
You give up your free will.
Fact:
A client cannot give up his/her free will in hypnosis any more than he can give up his/her free will when he is asleep. Actually, a client uses his/her free will to go into hypnosis, which is simply a heightened state of concentration and focus – – something most of us experience quite often throughout the day. In hypnotherapy, we isolate an area of a client’s life that he/she wants to change, where he/she has not been able to change on his/her own. So essentially, you gain self-control. When one has not been able to quit smoking on his own and quits smoking with the aid of hypnotherapy, that is gaining enormous self-control and personal power!

Here's some research you may be interested in:

This research shows that self-hypnosis training represents a rapid, cost-effective, nonaddictive and safe alternative to medication for the treatment of anxiety-related conditions. The tremendous volume of research provides compelling evidence that hypnosis is an efficacious treatment for state anxiety (e.g., prior to tests, surgery and medical procedures) and anxiety-related disorders, such as headaches and irritable bowel syndrome.

In terms of weight loss, some of Kirsch’s research has found that, compared to people undergoing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)—one of the most evidence-backed non-drug treatments for weight loss, depression and many other conditions—those who undergo cognitive behavior therapy coupled with hypnosis tend to lose significantly more weight. After four to six months, those undergoing CBT+hypnosis dropped more than 20 pounds, while those who just did CBT lost about half that amount. The hypnosis group also maintained that weight loss during an 18-month follow-up period, while the CBT-only group tended to regain some weight.

When it comes to pain management, anxiety, and other challenges, relief may come down to mind over matter: a technique called hypnotherapy. It works by helping you enter a trance-like state where attention is highly focused, so you're more responsive to suggestions. "It's most effective in treating problems that require stronger control over the body's responses," says Dr. Max Shapiro, a psychologist with Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. "Insomnia and pain are primary examples. It is now known that the brain has greater ability to influence the body than previously acknowledged."
